Old-school performance management isn’t working


Many HR tools passed down from previous years no longer worked in 2020 when a global pandemic changed the way we work. Now in 2021, as we continue bouncing back from one unprecedented event after another, there’s no room for inefficiencies in how HR leaders manage organizational performance–namely, the review cycle.

Performance reviews have always felt more like an unnecessary chore and less like a step towards meaningful change. They’re time consuming, disrupt the flow of work, and rarely do what they were designed to do, which is maintain and increase performance. All these challenges are weighing companies down: just 8% of organizations say their performance management processes drive a high level of value, while 58% call them a waste of time4.
