The US e-commerce opportunity

Why sell to US consumers? The answer is simple: The United States is home to one of the world’s most sophisticated e-commerce markets. Shoppers spend billions with online merchants each year, and approximately £12.5 billion goes to UK goods and services. And there’s plenty of opportunity for those sales to rise even higher — especially as online purchases continue to climb.

In a ChannelAdvisor survey of 1,000 US consumers, 52% of respondents said they plan to spend more time shopping online than they did before the global pandemic. Many are gaining new confidence in both e-commerce at large and individual sellers in general — 36% purchased items in 2020 they’d never before bought online — making this market an excellent avenue for UK brands and retailers. In fact, more than a quarter of those consumers intentionally buy from both domestic and international sellers. And another 7% transact only across borders.
