Many companies were not prepared to send employees handling sensitive customer and internal information home to work remotely in 2020. Cybercriminals quickly reacted and attacks were up by 34% from March to April 2020.1 Phishingrelated attacks saw a sharp rise from 5,000 per week in February to more than 20,000 per week in early April 2020.2 In short, most companies lacked the security tools, resources, and know-how to protect against the rising tide of attacks. Although organizational safety and cybersecurity were already top priorities for IT and business leaders, the events of 2020 have brought their effective execution into sharper view.
