INTRODUCTION

Cars are changing at an unprecedented rate – they are becoming smarter, safer, more secure and autonomous. These changes are being realized by the ability to capture information from outside the vehicle using a combination of cameras, LiDARs, radars and other sensors, which is then processed by ADAS systems (lane departure warning, self-parking etc.) or presented on a display to the driver. This generates huge volumes of data that must be transported around a vehicle in real time, requiring multi-gigabit data links to make this bandwidth revolution a reality. Given the prior absence of automotive technologies supporting these link speeds, the automotive industry, in attempting to make this possible, has drawn on some of the solutions successfully used in mobile phones and data centers.
